I have a 7 year old daughter that has always had weak bladder control and is a bedwetter. She has recently spent time at her fathers(my ex husband) house and he has started diapering her in the evening and for the night. When I wne to pick her up today he gave me a pack of diapers for her to wear and I asked why she is wearing them now, she has always worn Goodnites. He wants her to wear them from now on and will have to whenever she stays there. He also wants me to have her wear one at my house so she gets comfortable wearing one. I asked him why and he has said she has been having too many leaking accidents with the Goodnites and that diapers are cheaper anyways. I agreed with him for arguements sake but after talking to my daughter, she doesn't like having to wear one. He diapers her early in the evening and she is very upset about it all. I asked her why it is so bad and she tells me she doesn't like being diapered like a baby and doesn't like how it feels and fits. She is also embarressed about wearing it around her step siblings. I called my ex after we got home and asked if it was really neccesary to have her wear a diaper and he told me that it was and that she'll get used to it eventually. He told me not to give in to her complaints and he is tired of all the accidents ruining his good furniture and her bedding. I know if I let her wear a Goodnite to bed instead of a diaper it will get back to him and he'llget mad at me for giving in to her. He is very controlling and it's always been his idea over anyone elses. I don't want to start a big fight over this but am wondering if any other divorced parents with bedwetting kids have gone through something like this. I told my daughter she'll have to wear a diaper at least for tonight which made her upset and angry with me. What should I do?

why can't you tell your daughter that she can wear the goodnites at your house but at dads house you have to wear the diapers. i don't think she should have to wear them at your house if you do not want her to and if she does not like them but will wear goodnites i would let her choose which ones to wear at your house your ex has to never know.

Hello Anonymous, A little compromise is indeed due in this toutchy siuation. I'll be taking a stand for your child here in a manner on how they feel. Your right in the fact that a goodnite pant is right for your child , however, it doesn't seem to be absorbing enough liquid. Maybe there should be a 6 p.m. cut off on my [your childs]soda, caffiene intake that causes big time wetting problems for most kids. Next, mom, please ask dad, yes dad, if he would try putting a bed pad [blue pads] under me at night to catch any leaks. His furnature won't be wet then. Now, [Uncle Carquest talking again] the bed pads will indeed catch any leaks and considering everyone knows about your childs wetting, putting these pads on any furnature they sit on won't be alarming. If ex-hubby values your childs well being mentally speaking, he should at least try this option and tell the tightwad that you'll pick up the tab for the pads too! I agree 100 percent that your childs comfort and wellbeing comes first so please give it a go and if it helps have hubby read this post. I'll gladly try to help you both through this for the sake of your child as this is who really matters here. Take Care, UNcle Carquest

Good day I have twin 7 yeat old girls that wet the bed every night. We use Pampers diapers but they are costing so much. Can you tell me more about your niece and Luvs. I here they are cheaper and I would like to try them on my girls.

Thought I would inject my two cents in here. My daughter is disabled and wears Curity SleepPants at all times. She turned 7 on June 1st. She has been wearing the Curity SleepPants for several years and we have had less than a dozen leaks the entire time (on those occassions the SleepPants were extremely full). This might be an option instead of the diapers.

It is fine to diaper a 7 year old. Maybe when she is 9 or 10, she should learn how to diaper herself.

I Think Hes Right, I Think Hes Just Makin Sure There Are No Leaks On Carpet, Think Of It This Way; Hes Saving Money, Protecting Floors, Sheets, Etc, And Just Cause Your Daughter Doesnt Like It, She Needs To Face It, On Here There Are 16 Year Olds In Diapers Full Time

I think if your daughter needs to wear diapers she needs to wear them regardless if she likes them or not. you could wait tell just before she goes to bed to diaper her, that way she dosen't have to be seen in diapers before bed time.diapers really aren't that bad once you get use to them , I speak from experience as child bedwetter and more recently as an adult bedwetter, it's better to be in a diaper then have a wet bed or wet pants
